Getting More Subscribers Using YouTube Shorts

How to get more subscribers on YouTube using YouTube Shorts?

Yesterday, I attended a webinar conducted by YouTube Singapore. They invited two successful local creators to share their tips and tricks.

Here are the ten most important tips I learned from @DoctorTristanPeh and @MingWeiRocks.

A little context here.  Both found success in Tiktok first before moving over to Youtube, but it took then less than a year to reach a million subscribers.

1. Dump all your Tiktok videos into YouTube Shorts - Tristan uploaded all his videos within 3 days. Ming did nearly the same thing. Both saw views and subscribers exploding after 4 months.

2. Post 4 shorts a day - Tristan can make 4 or even 12 short videos a day. Ming does it once a day. Tristan's videos are mostly product demos that are quick to shoot. Ming videos are comedy skits that require some planning and improvising props.

3. Don't talk - Language is a barrier. So without talking, the video can reach a wider audience. Ming started his skits without talking and is still doing the same. Tristan experimented with videos without talking and found success.

4. Don't think too much - Thinking is a barrier.  The more you think, the lesser video you will make. Ming suggests making the video immediately when an idea hits.

5. Keep it very short - Tristan discovered his 7- second videos had more success than the longer ones.  That's partly due to the algorithm detecting the viewer replaying the video multiple times when the video automatically loops.

6. Make it snappy - You need some level of video editing experience here. Both have videos that are tightly edited with scenes changing very quickly. For example, if you need to demonstrate chewing something, just cut it to half a second long.

7. Make it bright and colorful - Ming discovered that his outdoor videos were more successful than his indoor videos. Tristan's Dental products are always colorful with good lighting.

8. Simplify your Niche topic - Reach a wider audience with a general topic related to your niche. Tristan noted that his wisdom tooth surgery videos reached a specific audience. His channel exploded when he talks about brushing teeth because everyone has teeth he noted.

9. Collaborate without collaborating - Ride on Brands and trends. There is no need to meet up or notify each other. Just make a video to talk about the brand related to your niche. For example, Tristan uses a Stormtrooper toothbrush for his demonstrations.

10. Add to stories - Chop up your shorts to tinier bits and add them to your stories. Engage your audience fully.

Both struggled with making long-form videos, but both got millions of subscribers and followers on YouTube and Tiktok.

Short videos of faster and easier to create.

Video platforms pushing their short videos now including Instagram and Facebook Reels.

What's in it for me?

There are no direct monetary gains from the short videos. The only benefit is more subscribers and followers... which results in more business opportunities.
