How to Share Screen Audio on Jitsi Meet with Mac Using BlackHole

Image
Jitsi Meet is the open-source alternative to Zoom . Jitsi Meet is free and does not have the 40-minute limit that Zoom imposes. There is also nothing to download and install, except for the mobile version. It works almost like Zoom except there is one problem. There is no audio from the screen share. I want to use Jitsi Meet to share my video editing experience via online classes , so audio is critical. On 7 April 2020, Jitsi added the ability to share system audio together with the screen! WAIT! You can share the entire system audio ONLY on Windows… “On Windows, you are able to share the entire system audio, but on Linux and macOS just that of the tab you’re sharing.”… https://jitsi.org/blog/features-update-april-2020/ On a Mac, I can only share audio coming from one single Google Chrome tab. Self-Employed Income Relief Scheme – Am I Eligible?

Am I an employee or a self-employed or a shareholder-director? I don’t know. Up Your Game in Conducting Online Classes

Image
How can I connect my DSLR to my computer as a webcam for better quality online courses? I get this question after my post on using the GoPro as a webcam for live streaming . So here is my answer. If you seriously want to up the game in your live online presentation, one camera alone cannot cut it. You will look more professional with a multicamera setup. One camera with the close-up shot of your talking head. One camera with a wider shot of yourself and the flip chart or whiteboard. One camera with a close-up shot of the flip chart or whiteboard or any product you want to demonstrate. One video source with your presentation slides and your face in one corner. One simple switcher to switch between the above scenes. I have created a video on how to do that. Watch it here… https://youtu.be/-qls8CdnnXw You don’t need a crew to operate this system. The next step is to edit and repurpose the recorded footage. Again you don’t need an editor if you know which software to use

Why I Love Using Zoom Meeting for My Online Classes

Image
I hated Zoom at first. I was wrong. I slept like a log last night. My energy is totally drained after 2 full days of training over the weekend. This is my first time teaching live online… And I love it! Here’s why… I thought it will be easier, less tiring, to teach online. I was totally wrong. I still used the same amount of energy. I get the same amount of satisfaction from completing the challenge. I’m a perfectionist. I thought that it’s harder to get the attention of participants because they are in the comforts of their home. I was wrong. It was, in fact, easier to get an individual’s attention. Maybe because I have less than 10 participants in the class. I thought participants attention will not last more than half a day taking a course online. I was wrong. Participants were listening intently from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm with 3 short breaks in between. How do I know they were paying attention? I can see their faces. I can hear their voices. Thanks to Zoom. Participants

It feels like magic. After a day of exhausting training, shut off the computer, step out of the room and I am home instantly! The wonders of working from home. 🥳😄🤣

Break time! Even online training have break time. So far so good. I'm enjoying conducting remote training... Sharing my experience in videography and video editing.

Image

Done! Equipment all set up. Slides modified. Tomorrow's online training will be conducted from this tiny home studio. No classroom required. Stay at home, work from home, and home based learning. I've got a strong feeling this will be the new norm even after covid-19. What do you think?

Wired internet! No more unstable wifi. The mercy now depends in the internet provider M1 (used to be Starhub)... And my Huawei internet router... And my router's power adapter (which broke down once)... And the Singapore Power supply... And my home circuit breaker (no pun intended)... Am I paranoid or what? Or am I just the same old electronics engineer I was trained as? All this for conducting the weekend's 2-day live online training.

Image

Back to the basics. My wifi isn't very stable for working from home and conducting online trainings. Thanks goodness I have a 100m ethernet cable. Gonna connect the internet router from one end of my house directly into my mac at the other end.

Best Zoom Settings for Teaching and Recording

Image
I hate Zoom.  The video recording is worse than VCD. The audio recording is worse than a tiny box radio. Screen sharing is so laggy. Too laggy to teach video editing software. I can’t find the solution on Google. So I tweaked all day to experiment. Here are my “best” Zoom settings for remote training and local video recording… This is the actual Zoom recording, unedited… it could be much better if not for its limitations… https://www.facebook.com/AdrianLeeYC/videos/10157378421663391/ I preparing Zoom for tomorrow’s videography and video editing training to 6 participants… https://www.videolane.com/courses/basic-videography/ Suggested Alternatives to Zoom video conferencing would be Microsoft TEAMS, WebEx free tier, Streamyard, Jitsi, and Google Meeting. iPhone SE (2nd Generation) Specs and Price in Singapore

Image
The new 2020 iPhone SE looks like my old iPhone 6. The price is so low that i might buy one for my small kiddo. How much is it? S$649 for 64GB S$719 for 128GB S$889 ffor 256GB Pre-order begins 17 April 2020, 8 pm Singapore time. Why is the price so low? Image
When is the OnePlus 8 Pro launching? Today, 14 April 2020. Watch it here… https://youtu.be/LOWVrkL_DEE Is the video camera good on this phone? I will update on the specs and price here. Will I be recommending it in my Smartphone Video Class Online ? Talking about online classes, I just modified my videography and video editing workshop as a live stream class . To practise my online live presentation skills, I am going to conduct a free class . Today’s topic will be bout how to use the iPhone as a webcam for live stream . Everyone is doing live streaming during the lockdown (aka Circuit Breaker). Today is Day 8 of working from home. 386 covid cases reported in a day. Biggest spike so far. I’m worried. Wifey and small kiddo must go out to work. I’m tired of my own cooking. Time to order food from outside. I’m also really thankful for the people running the internet. Without the internet, I cannot continue running my business. With the Internet, I am getting ready to watc

OnePlus 8 Pro Price Leak | Covid Circuit Breaker Day 7

The OnePlus 8 Pro is set to release on 14 April 2020 and here’s the rumored price. Not cheap. OnePlus 8 with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage: €729 (S$1128) The OnePlus 8 Pro will succeed the popular OnePlus 7 Pro . OnePlus 7 Pro I am looking for a new phone for my kiddo. At this price, I would rather get the Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite or the iPhone 11 . Anyway, I still need money to buy the phone, and have to figure out how to make money while locked down in my home. So today’s challenge is… Set up my live streaming gear permanently. Modify my workshop to an online version. Practice by giving free mini-courses on Facebook . Sell 7 more tickets in the next 3 days. Prep follow-up in-depth courses after this. It’s a monday today, CCB Day 7. Wifey and small kiddo have to go to do “essential service” work. Big kiddo doing uni home-based learning. Me? This week will also be a preparation week for my upcoming 2-day Videography and Video Editing Course in Singapore . For the first time, I will be using Zoom to conduct the training online. This is what I am going to do… Spruce up my online live presentation skills. Optimise my streaming equipment and software. Modify the course agenda to an online version. Nintendo Animal Crossing in the News | Circuit Breaker Day 5

Image
Nintendo Animal Crossing is in the news for the wrong reason. That shows how powerful the game is. Read about the news here at CNA . Animal Crossing is a game played on the Nintendo Switch Console where you can decorate your own island and invite other players in real life to visit. Build your digital world! This is like a perfect game in a time when you have to stay at home to stop the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. It’s Saturday today, Circuit Breaker Day 5 in Singapore. I am thankful that Wifey and Kiddos are all at home. Kiddos have their own games to play, Final Fantasy XV and Club Penguin . Me? I have been busy filing my business and personal taxes with wifey… AND… Repairing my MacBook Pro that refused to boot up . Today is also going to be busy too. I have plenty of backlog video editing to be done for my YouTube channel … AND… Preparing the home-based learning version of my 2-day videography and video editing course in Singapore happening next weekend. Macbook Pro Bootup Stuck on Apple Logo after Installing Samsung DeX Solved

Image
I was about to use my Macbook Pro to file my income tax when I regretfully decided to install Samsung DeX . I installed Samsung DeX so I can connect my Samsung Galaxy S10 to the big screen. After installation, I had to reset the Mac and that’s when it happened. The bootup stopped at the Apple logo… I tried every method I can google. I asked my friends on Facebook. Nothing worked. Then i tried my own method and it worked! Here’s how… Press and hold the power key to turn the Mac Off. Press and hold Command + R + power keys together. When the Chime sounds, let go of the power button. When the Apple logo and loading bar appears, let go of the Command and R keys. Wait for the macOS Utilities to appear. Click on the small Apple logo in the top left-hand corner. Select Startup Disk. Click the Restart button. I am so thankful the SSD storage is still intact. Everything is back to normal. No Zoom for Singapore Home Based Learning | Circuit Breaker Day 4

Image
9 April 2020, Singapore’s Ministry of Education (MOE) stopped schools from using the video conferencing platform Zoom after several hacking incidents. Source: https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/hackers-hijack-home-based-lessons-on-zoom-to-allegedly-show-obscene-photos-to-children Hackers hijacked live-streaming lessons with obscene pictures appearing on some students computer screens. The security breach likely happened because the Zoom meetings were entered with just a given link instead of logging in with passwords. Zoom does have security features built-in. We just need to know how to use them. So for my upcoming class, I will continue to use Zoom, ensuring that participants join the session with password login. The live online class will happen next weekend, on 18 April 2020, for the 2-day Videography and Video Editing Course for BEGINNERS. In the mean time, I am practising my online presentation skills by going online and teaching mini-lessons for free. Take a look a

Singapore Reusable Face Masks – go where to collect and first look review

Moving to Home-Based Learning From Traditional Classroom Training

Image
It’s a major milestone. I have finally moved from conducting traditional classroom training to home-based learning, aka e-learning. Here’s how I did it. I have been planning this for many years, and finally, thanks or no thanks to covid-19, the process is sped up. The online course is launched at 12 noon today without a hitch… https://gum.co/Btipv I recorded one more welcome message and shortened the 34 lesson titles. It works on both desktop and mobile. Best of all, there is already one sale. More to come. Here’s what I did to make the move from offline to online. Record my offline training while conducting the actual class in front of real students. Edit the recordings into small lesson chunks by removing delays and distractions. Upload the recordings to an online course platform marketplace. Wrote a simple sales page. Start promoting the sales page link. If you want to know the detailed process for any of the steps, l will be glad to expand on it. The next step for m
