Risk Music Copyright Infringement for Wedding Montages

Image
...or cough up between $100 and $200 for each song. It's in the news today. Be careful what songs you use in weddings. http://www.todayonline.com/Print/Hotnews/EDC091228-0000047/Theyve-only-just-begun---to-charge "It (Composers and Authors Society of Singapore ) has sent letters to wedding photographers and videographers asking them to buy the licences for songs they wish to use - on their corporate websites and in their works - while stopping short of suggesting active enforcement." (Where's my letter? They missed me!) "They should state clearly who they represent, which are the copyrighted songs, and how much one has to pay for different uses - for example, on a website or for a photo montage... That way, businesses will be more willing to pay for the licences because we can then prove to customers there's a reason for raising our charges." COMPASS should create some sort of online shopping cart for us to buy licences. Just make it easy to...

Chocolates in the Grind...

Image
Boxing Day was a working day. Got a wedding video to edit. Shot on the same Saturday. Given only 3 hours to do it. With a plan and script in mind, fingers quickly cut and splice. Deleting ruthlessly in the grind, Powered by chocs with spice. Gobbled the pack in 3 hours. A birthday present from office. Better than decos and flowers. Chocolates for me is a feast. A Touch of Madness - 2010 Here I Come...

Image
I finally have time to read a book... on Boxing Day! Mini Book Review - Warrior of the Light: A Manual by Paulo Coelho. My favourite phrase from the book - "A Touch of Madness" "A Touch of Madness" appears three times in the book. "The warrior knows that he is free to choose his desires, and he makes these decisions with courage, detachment and - sometimes - with just a touch of madness." "If he waits for the ideal moment, he will never set off; he requires a touch of madness to take the next step." "The warrior uses that touch of madness. For - in both love and war - it is impossible to foresee everything." In other words "Acts of Courage". The very formula for any major breakthrough in life. 2010, here I come. How to Create Fake Miniature Photos with the Tilt Shift Lens Effect

Image
Have been toying around with creating fake miniature photos. In this blog I will explain how I did it. First take a look at some photos I have done... Fake Miniature Toy Houses with Tiny Solar Power Panels. Fake Miniature Toy Boats in the BathTub. Fake Miniature Stones in a Bonsai Pot. "Fake Miniature" means it's actually the real thing that's made to look like a tiny model or plastic toy. Now, look at the original REAL photos which I took myself with my Samsung Omnia 2. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=3240202&l=94507259cb&id=599113390 http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=3240394&l=1579bee6a9&id=599113390 http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=3240474&l=047b248c4c&id=599113390 Here's how to create Fake miniatures from real Photos. Wonder Girls - Nobody But You

Image
Been living in a cave for too long. People around me know this song. Posted on Youtube for a year. Only last week I got to hear. Heard it on a wedding day. For the groom to dance and play. The tune is rather catchy. The beat is so very lively. The chorus got stuck in my head. Kept singing it till I went to bed. "I want nobody nobody but you." "I want nobody nobody but you."... Solved! Missing USB2 Enhanced Host Controller...

Image
Let's celebrate! My PC is up to speed again. There was nothing to do with Windows Vista. We have been bashing and blaming it for nothing. The cause for the slow down was the missing USB2. Or rather missing USB2 enhanced host controller. Discovered this when I plugged in an external drive. The PC reported it cannot operate at optimum speed. It said the USB 2.0 hi speed port was not present. This caused the drive to work in slow speed USB1. It's a pain to edit video at this old speed. Especially when editing high definition videos. Response was so sluggish like a x386 computer. Did a few things before pin-pointing the actual cause. Cleaned desktop, defragmented, scanned for virus and spyware. Cleaned registry, system restore and asked for help. Finally I found this forum thread that ended it all... http://www.softwaretipsandtricks.com/forum/windows-xp/14354-missing-usb-controller-device-manager.html Here's how to bring back the missing USB2: 1. Turn on PC. Press DEL. Get into...

Where are you? What time is it? What are you?

Image
Quotes from Peaceful Warrior Where are you? Here. What time is it? Now. What are you? This moment. This moment is the only thing that matters. There are no ordinary moments. Everything has a purpose, even this, and it's up to you to find it. The journey is what brings us happiness not the destination. Life has just three rules? Paradox, humour, and change. Paradox... Life is a mystery. Don't waste time trying to figure it out. Humour... Keep a sense of humour, especially about yourself. It is a strength beyond all measure. Change... Know that nothing stays the same. There's no greater purpose than service to others. Quotes that jumped out on me while watching "Peaceful Warrior" DVD, based on a true story about a gymnast Dan Millman and a wise man nicknamed Socrates. Watched it with a bunch buddy friends and popcorns. Adrian Lee Follow me - http://twitter.com/AdrianLee

Exciting Lifestyle of a Hamster.

Image
Scampered around frantically in a netted. cage. Climbed tiny stairs. Crawled through tubes. Slipped down slippery slides. Squashed in a corner by other hyper active hamsters. Took a break... Sip some water... Munched on tidbits. Then back to scampering. All that really happened when I joined my children at the giant playground in Explorer Kids, Downtown East. We were invited to a birthday party over there. Perfect party venue for kids I would say. Even adults like me enjoyed the fun. Ferris wheel included. If you look at the playground, you will see stark resemblance of a hamster cage. At least now I know the exciting lifestyle of a hamster. Adrian Lee Http://twitter.com/AdrianLee

CareCafe Juicy Hamburger Delight

Image
Tried a new cafe for lunch. CareCafe near Lavender. I had curry vegie rice while Willie had the juicy looking hamburger. There were kimchi noodle and cold noodle. Why care in CareCafe? There are pictures of children on the wall. Children that they support from World Vision. A cafe with a big heart. Then there was a mural on the wall painted by its own staff. Impressive! Go eat at the cafe. Remember to ask for lavendar tea. You'll get a treat. Adrian Lee Http://VideoLane.com

Videographer Shoots in HD, Delivers on Blu Ray

Image
Most common question this week: "Do you shoot in HD (High Definition video)?" Of course I shoot in HD. That's the professional standards today. Home consumer videocams these days are HD. Professional videographers better be higher than that. Gone are the days of recording on tape. Gone are the days of DV. I am ebaying away all my tape machines. The next question you should ask is: "How do you deliver?" Tapes are replaced with memory cards and hard disks. A videographer will not give you a memory card or a hard disk. It will be blu ray disc. What's more: "Can I travel overseas to shoot?" Yes! My video cam can record HD in both NTSC and PAL. That means I can shoot in the US, in Europe, Japan, China, Asia... except underwater. So the next time anyone wants a professional HD videographer, here I am! Donated the First Bag of Blood! Painless!

Image
Scared at first. How will it feel? What's the feeling of blood being sucked out of your body? The bloody needle was indeed really thick. It pierced right through my big vein on the right arm. Verdict? Painless. No curdling sucking feeling. The blood just flows smoothly into the bag from my arm. Painless also because of friendly staff, a beautiful donor beside me and friends all around. Thanks to Mathew Wong, my friend, who's also the organiser for the event, for encouraging me to make the move. Feels great to have save a life and renew my blood cells. I encourage all of you who hold back donating blood because of fear, to take the first step. It's painless! Adrian Lee http://VideoLane.com

If you have one eye on yesterday, and one eye on tomorrow...

Image
...you're going to be cockeyed today. ~Author Unknown This image of freshly cut green grass was taken with my Samsung Omnia II over the weekend at Henderson Park, where my kids love to play. They call it the "Train" playground. I am practicing the art of being present with my kids. The art of not answering the phone all the time. The art of living today. Here're more quotes about living in the present... "We are always getting ready to live but never living." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson "Not the power to remember, but its very opposite, the power to forget, is a necessary condition for our existence. " ~Sholem Asch, The Nazarene, 1939 "Children have neither past nor future; they enjoy the present, which very few of us do." ~Jean de la Bruyere "If you worry about what might be, and wonder what might have been, you will ignore what is." ~Author Unknown "Let us not look back in anger, nor forward in fear, but around in awareness...

Won a Book Again, "Public Speaking FAQ" by Eric Feng...

...just shout out the right answer at the right time... in Eric Feng's seminar of course. Eric Feng, an outstanding young chap, spoke about becoming a people magnet. In one short hour, I learnt valuable networking tips I thought I already knew. Not just ordinary networking tips, but tips for networking with high society people. From now on, I will not ask a lady if she has kids, or if she was pregnant. Give genuine compliments to people and be very interested in them first. Small talk. Start small talks. That's where most relationships start. OK, write less, talk more. I am going out to network now. Adrian Lee Http://Twitter.com/AdrianLee

Got a New Panasonic HMC-151 AVCCAM Video Camcorder...

Image
...better than the Panasonic HMC-152. The HMC-152 can only shoot in PAL while the HMC-151 can record in both PAL and NTSC. Specially ordered from Japan. Not readily available in Singapore. Paid a little bit more, S$1000 more, but it's worth the price. That means I can now shoot for both NTSC (US, Japan) and PAL (Singapore) markets. For those who don't know what I am talking about, it simply means I have upgraded my professional video camcorder to the latest state-of-the-art model by Panasonic. People affected by this great news are my valued clients. From now on, you will get higher quality, full high definition, recordings for your videos! Act of Courage - Eat Raw Prawn...

Image
...Sweet! (See photo) It tasted exactly like cooked prawns except it's SLIMY! Imagine. Peel the shell. Bite off the flesh. Feel the cool sweet prawn in your mouth as you chew on it. Suck the head. NO! I did not suck the raw prawn head. That's as far as I can go. This dish was part of Mom's birthday lunch last Sunday at Pasir Ris Sakura. I don't mind having more raw prawn next time. It's better than I thought, like sashimi. I love sashimi. Adrian Lee http://twitter.com/AdrianLee

Yaught Club Photo Shot With Samsung Omnia II...

Image
...on a bright sunny day. Only 5 mega pixel. I think the picture looks great for a phone camera. Wait till you see the video recording. It's DVD quality! The only set back is poor low light quality for video recording, although the built-in flash is perfect for still shots. Another set back for the Samsung Omnia II is the lack of scroll buttons.
