Stopping Spam Comments on WordPress

Lately, I have been getting hundreds of repeating comments saying "thanks" or "thank you" and other variation coming from different emails, but the same 3 IP addresses.  

45.80.175.89

45.80.175.119

45.80.175.148

How to stop this spam from populating my WordPress comments?

I tried doing this.  

  1. Log in to WordPress admin. 
  2. Go to Comments. 
  3. Copy the offending IP addresses. 
  4. Go to Settings > Discussion.  
  5. Go to Disallowed Comment Keys. 
  6. Paste the offending IP addresses.  
  7. Save. 

This should automatically throw the comments into the bin. 

BUT WAIT...  

Thats means the comments will still be coming and WordPress have to keep working to put them into the bin... and I have to clear the bin regularly.

Wouldn't it better to stop it altogether?
