Stuck at 200 Views? My TikTok vs. CapCut Experiment to Beat the Algorithm

Why My TikTok Views Are Stuck at 200: A Real-World Experiment...

Are you struggling with low TikTok views, stagnant video performance, or a drop in followers despite posting high-quality video content? As a creator, it’s frustrating to see the same video crush it on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook while hitting a hard ceiling of 200 views on TikTok. I’m currently testing a new social media strategy to determine if the TikTok algorithm penalizes external editing tools like CapCut and favors native video editing inside the app.

The Problem: The 200-View Wall

I’ve been tracking my performance across multiple platforms. My videos consistently hit over 1,000 views on other channels, but on TikTok, I’m stuck at 200. Even worse, I’m seeing unfollows on TikTok, while I continue to gain followers elsewhere with the exact same footage.

I’m ruling out quality issues. I know my production value is high, and I’m keeping that standard for this test.

The Experiment: Native vs. External

To solve this, I’m running a controlled experiment:

The Variables: I am using the exact same footage for both videos. Both videos include a link to a TikTok Shop affiliate product.

The Difference:

Video A: Edited in CapCut and uploaded to TikTok.

Video B: Edited entirely using the TikTok built-in video editor.

The Goal: Does the algorithm favor "native" content? Does the editing tool affect the reach of affiliate-linked videos?

What’s Next?

In a few days, I’ll compare the view counts and engagement data. If the native-edited video breaks the 200-view barrier, I’ll have my answer. If not, I’ll move on to testing other theories, like the impact of the "hook" or the lo-fi versus high-quality aesthetic.

Stay tuned—I’ll be sharing the results of this experiment soon. If you’re a creator dealing with the same TikTok algorithm frustration, I’d love to hear if you’ve noticed similar trends with your own content.

PS:

It seems like TikTok wants me to pay for traffic, judging by the notification at the bottom of my video... It reminds me of the old Facebook days when Facebook suddenly cut traffic.
