iPhone 11 Pro vs Pro Max

What are the differences in specs, size, battery life, and camera?

Between the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro, I want the Pro, because of the third camera with ultra-wide lens.

Now between the iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max, which one should I get?

Let’s break down the essential specs that a YouTube Vlogger like me must have.

Size

  • iPhone 11 Pro: 5.8” display, 2436‑by‑1125-pixel resolution at 458 ppi
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max: 6.5” display, 2688‑by‑1242-pixel resolution at 458 ppi

Bigger screen, clearer image. A good point to consider. Not for human eye viewing, but for screen shot capturing which I do very often.

Weight

  • iPhone 11 Pro: 6.63 ounces (188 grams)
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max: 7.97 ounces (226 grams)

Weight is a concern when is comes to smartphone gimbal. The Zhiyun Smooth 4 can take a load up to only 210g. So the Pro Max won’t do.

Battery Life

  • iPhone 11 Pro: Video playback (streamed) Up to 11 hours
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max: Video playback (streamed) Up to 12 hours

Just a mere 1 to 2 hours makes no difference a few months down the road when the battery life span is reduced after aging.

Camera

Both have the same camera specs.

  • Triple 12MP Ultra Wide, Wide, and Telephoto cameras
  • Ultra Wide: ƒ/2.4 aperture and 120° field of view
  • Wide: ƒ/1.8 aperture
  • Telephoto: ƒ/2.0 aperture
  • 2x optical zoom in, 2x optical zoom out; digital zoom up to 10x

It’s the Ultra Wide camera that makes me consider switching back to the iPhone… Since the iPhone 6.

Video Recording

Both have the same video recording specs.

  • 4K video recording at 24 fps, 30 fps, or 60 fps
  • 1080p HD video recording at 30 fps or 60 fps
  • 720p HD video recording at 30 fps
  • Extended dynamic range for video up to 60 fps
  • Optical image stabilization for video (Wide and Telephoto)
  • 2x optical zoom in, 2x optical zoom out; digital zoom up to 6x
  • Audio zoom
  • Brighter True Tone flash
  • QuıckTake video with subject tracking
  • Slo‑mo video support for 1080p at 120 fps or 240 fps
  • Time‑lapse video with stabilization
  • Cinematic video stabilization (4K, 1080p, and 720p)
  • Continuous autofocus video
  • Take 8MP still photos while recording 4K video
  • Playback zoom
  • Video formats recorded: HEVC and H.264
  • Stereo recording

Earpods

Both include EarPods with Lightning Connector.

This will be my external microphone for talking while vlogging.

Editing

Both have iMovie video editing app included for free.

I will be using iMovie for simple videos. Otherwise I will use Adobe Premiere Rush and Quik.

Price

What’s the price as at 26 December 2019?

Forget about the 64GB model. Not enough for daily vlogging.

Get either the 256GB or the 512GB model.

  • iPhone 11 Pro 256GB: US$1149 / SG$1889
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max 256GB: US$1249 / SG$2039
  • iPhone 11 Pro 512GB: US$1349 / SG$2199
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max 512GB:. US $1449 / SG$2349

Decision

What’s the biggest difference between the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max?

The size. Only less than 1 inch difference would not make much of a difference for me.

In fact, the smaller is safer to fit on to a gimbal.

Camera wise, they are exactly the same.

256GB or 512GB. 256GB will do. Pay an extra $200, 512GB is better.

Let’s buy iPhone 11 Pro 256GB… for my daily vlogging and travel videos.
