Poetic Y36 Children's Smartwatch Review

How can I keep track of my child when they're out of sight? How can I stay in touch with my child throughout the day? Is there a way for my child to call or text me without a phone?

A children's smartwatch is one of the most convenient and reliable ways to keep track of your child when they're not right in front of you. Here's why:

  • GPS Tracking: Most children's smartwatches come with built-in GPS. This allows you to see your child's real-time location on a map through a parent app on your own phone.
  • Geofencing: You can set up virtual boundaries, such as your neighborhood or their school. You'll receive instant notifications if your child leaves or enters these designated areas.
  • SOS/Emergency Calls: Many smartwatches have a dedicated SOS button that children can press to instantly call you or other specified contacts in emergencies.
  • Two-Way Communication: Some smartwatches allow you to call them or send short messages, offering additional ways to stay connected with your child.

Important Note: It's always best to discuss safety plans with your child and teach them the appropriate use of the smartwatch features. This reinforces open communication and responsible technology use.

Unboxing and First Impressions: My TikTok Smartwatch Review

Hey everyone! So, I got this children's smartwatch from a TikTok shop and I'm going to review it and make a video. Let's unbox it together and see what we find!

  • What's Inside: The watch itself, a short USB to micro USB cable, and this weird clip thing for the strap.
  • Initial Power-On: It came fully charged – bonus points! It has some cool apps like a calculator, math game, alarm clock, and stopwatch. But no way to set the time or connect to WiFi... the manual mentions an app and a SIM card.
  • Camera Test: Okay, it takes photos (kind of blurry), but sadly no videos. A gallery lets me see what I take. If it did videos, that'd be epic!

Getting Things Set Up: App, SIM Card, and... Mystery Apps?

Clearly, I need the app and a SIM card for full features.

  • App Download: I found "SeTracker 2" on my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and created an account.
  • SIM Card Struggle: Turns out you NEED a SIM card, even to get a QR code for pairing. The user manual was right, but I had to try, right?
  • Mystery App Appears: Wait, what is that "FindMyKids" app on my phone? I didn't install that – weird! Maybe it came with SeTracker 2?

SIM Card Success & SeTracker 2 Exploration

  • Time Check: The SIM card finally updates the watch's time automatically. Small win, but annoying I can't change it on the watch itself.
  • Pairing Success: Now I can scan the QR code with the app and set myself up as "daddy" – cute!
  • LBS & Tracking: Turning on location-based services put my kid's watch on a map in my app. I Set it to track every 10 minutes.
  • "I Am Here": There's this sound I can trigger from the app. The watch says "I am here." Maybe to let your kid know you're outside their school?
  • Annoying Ads: Pop-ups in SeTracker 2 want me to pay to get rid of ads. Hmm...
  • Model Mystery: The watch is a Y36, but there's no brand name.

Final Thoughts (For Now)

The SeTracker app seems fishy, but some research shows they're legit and focus on privacy. Gotta say I'm a bit torn. The watch has potential for the price, but I'll update you guys after a few days of testing!

Let me know in the comments if you have any questions or want to see specific things tested in the TikTok video!

Video Calls

How to communicate with your child without a phone? How can you easily talk to your young child when they're not with you?

For parents of young children who want to stay connected, without giving their child a smartphone, kids' smartwatches like the Y36 offer a fantastic solution! Here's why the video call feature is perfect for little ones:

  • Face-to-Face Connection: Even when you can't be there, seeing your child's face on a video call creates a stronger sense of connection than just a voice call. It reassures both you and them!
  • Ease of Use: Most smartwatches with video calling have very simple interfaces. Your child can easily answer and make calls with a few taps, and no complicated phone menus to learn.
  • Safety: You control the contact list, so your child can only video call people you approve. This avoids the risks of accidental calls or exposure to the wider internet.
  • Peace of Mind: Being able to pop in with a quick video call whenever you miss your little one offers amazing peace of mind, whether they're at daycare, with a babysitter, or just playing at a friend's house.

Important:

  • SIM Card: Make sure the Y36 smartwatch has a 4G SIM card installed for video calling to work.
  • Data Plan: Choose a data plan suitable for video calls, as these can use more data than regular calls.

Bonus Tip: For very young children, practice using the video call feature beforehand. Make it a fun game so they're comfortable when you use it for real!

Wifi Positioning

What to do if your child gets lost? Your child is young and gets distracted easily, so what can you do if they get lost?

Here's how the Y36's LBS and WiFi positioning features as a tool for parents worried about their young child getting lost:

Children's smartwatches like the Y36 offer a layer of reassurance with their location-tracking features. Here's how the LBS and WiFi positioning can help parents worried about their young child getting lost:

  • LBS (Location-Based Services): This uses nearby cell towers to give you an approximate location of your child's smartwatch. It helps get a general idea of their whereabouts, especially in crowded areas.

  • WiFi Positioning: The Y36 can also use nearby WiFi networks to pinpoint its location more accurately. This can be extremely helpful if your child gets lost indoors, like a shopping mall or large building.

  • Real-time Tracking: Paired with a parent app like SeTracker 2, you can see your child's location on a map in real time. This lets you start heading in the right direction immediately.

  • Geofencing: You can set up virtual "safe zones" such as your home or school. If your child wanders outside these areas, you'll receive an instant alert.

Important Notes:

  • Accuracy: LBS and WiFi positioning are not as precise as GPS, but they offer valuable guidance in a lost child situation.
  • Data: These features will use cellular data, so make sure your SIM plan supports it.

How to use this to your advantage:

  • Teach your child: Explain to your child that the watch helps you find them if they get lost. Instruct them to stay put if possible, and to look for a safe person to ask for help (like a mom with kids or someone in uniform).
  • Practice: Run through a "lost" scenario with your child in a safe space to help the concept sink in.

Remember: A smartwatch is a powerful tool, but it's vital to teach your child basic safety rules and what to do if they get separated from you.
