Reduced Fees: PayPal Business accounts typically have transaction fees that are higher than those for Personal accounts. I am now primarily using PayPal for personal transactions, switching to a Personal account could save me money.
Account Closure: I am closing my business and no longer need the functionalities of a Business account, switching to a Personal account can be a logical step.
Why Create a New Account?
PayPal doesn't offer an option to convert an existing Business account into a Personal account. This is mainly due to the differences in features and regulations between the two account types. However, setting up a new Personal account is straightforward.
The Easiest Way: Using a Different Email Address
- Log out of your Business account: Make sure you're fully signed out of PayPal.
- Sign up for a Personal account: Visit the PayPal homepage and click "Sign Up." Choose "Personal Account" and follow the instructions, providing a different email address than the one on your Business account.
Using the Same Email Address: Requires Closing Your Business Account
If you prefer to keep using the same email address, you'll need to close your Business account first:

- Under "Account options," click "Close your account."
- Follow the prompts to confirm closure.
